Join the Pi Day Party at Mathnasium where they will be celebrating Pi in all kinds of fun and tasty ways. There will be food, games, activities, rewards, and a raffle. Meet the extremely talented digital artist and photographer Ben Brandes this Saturday at 12:00 PM at Butter + Velvet. Ben has been taking photographs since he was 3 years old, and the way he blends images to create one-of-a-kind pieces is truly astonishing! Youth art exhibits are happening all around the area this week, so don’t miss this meet-and-greet with Ben in Downtown Denville this Saturday at 12:00pm! His artwork, along with copies of his coffee table book entitled “Uniquely Beautiful” are available to purchase at Butter + Velvet.

In addition to being a true talent, Ben is also a strong advocate for raising awareness of Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), which he suffers from. CAS is a motor speech disorder that makes it difficult to plan and produce highly-refined movements of the tongue, lips, jaw, and palate that are necessary when forming speech. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each of his books goes towards helping fund research, provide education, and raise awareness of CAS! Enjoy live music by James Mastro at Sweet Vinyl Cafe. James Mastro is is an icon of New Jersey music. As a member of The Bongos in the late ’80s, he helped put our state on the indie-rock map. In the ’90s he led The Health & Happiness Show, which slayed audiences coast to coast opening for Wilco and other notables. Later he backed John Cale, Patti Smith, and Robert Plant, and lent his producing and arranging skills to innumerable other acts. Most recently he became Mott the Hoople leader Ian Hunter’s right-hand man. And now he’s finally released his debut solo album, featuring numerous rock luminaries, some of whom will be helping him bring his songs to life at Sweet Vinyl on March 8.

He originally hails from the Hudson Valley and performs both regionally and nationally. He began his career working with folk luminaries like Pete Seeger and contributed to a Grammy winning album in 2012. In 2024 he performed over 180 public and private engagements. He was a top performer in 2024 for Gigsalad.com and Paragon Booking. Some landmark venues he has worked at include The Bitter End, Tarrytown Music Hall, Spotlight at the Paramount Theatre, Sam Adams Downtown Taproom and the Towne Crier Cafe to name a few. His repertoire includes originals, standards, pop hits, americana, and jazz.
